URBAN CROQUET 2009 IN REVIEW
It was remarkable. The weather
Godz gave us tremendous sunny and warm day for Urban Croquet 09. This only started the day out great and
it continued on as Teams dressed in non-traditional croquet outfits poured in to mallet-off. Then the sound
of balls being whacked around the flags of the world echoed throughout the lawn of our Host the International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers Local 683.
The plays were
mixed with laughter, arguments, discussions, disappointment, clowning around, jubilation, confusion, plotting, and cheating
on the unusually designed courts as Teams battled for the coveted 1st Place and 1st Place Looser trophies. Fortunately
our winner of the Best Costume in the Men’s category, Dick Cheney look-a-like didn’t have to shoot anyone with
his plastic shotgun.
Team IBEW 683“The Shockers” were shocked when they had to play
Best Costume Team “AmAsian Race”. Becca
Haninger graced Team Brothers Drake Meadery with her elegant Victorian gown winning Best Costume in the Women’s category.
No particular costume was needed for the fast winning Team WTF!
They emerged out of no where and knocked Reining Champions Team Wicket Masters onto the court for the “only defeated
once” match. Team Wicket Master, Team Here 4 Beer, and Team AmAsian Race played a timed sudden death
match to be able to go on and compete against the power house Team WTF! Team Here 4 Beer cried victory
and the other teams cried WTF!
Waiting on Grand
Championship Course St. Vic. Andrews to defend was Team WTF! Team Here 4 Beer grabbed another beer and
headed for the death defying course. A course no human should have to play. As the sun was setting,
the two Teams battled through the wickets that were hap-hazardously placed around dog doo dah’s, rocks and hills, and
was complete with a cliff.
Team Here 4 Beer poured it on and knocked off Team WTF! Amazingly enough Team WTF! could
only chant their name.
Now here comes the best part of
the story.
Since both teams have lost only match each,
there had to be one sudden death match to determine the Winner. Instead of playing the match, both teams
showed good sportsman like conduct and went to blows for the trophy. Just kidding…the two Teams
decided that each would take a 1st Place trophies and 1st Place Looser trophies.
Congratulations and the Winners and the Losers! Only in the
Land of Doo Dah can you be both!
