2007 Urban Croquet Final Results (pictures will be
posted soon)
There were Hot
Balls on Fire at the 2007 Urban Croquet!
With
scorching temperatures near 90 degrees, hot balls lying on the course were beaten around in scorching hot competition.
17 teams took to the field. Teams had individual themes in their attire. Two of the best were Team Yankee
Trader and the Four Dead in Ohio.
Tough Course E, St. VicAndrews, bit into the skill
of returning 2006 Champion Team #8 Croq-au-vin, and was knocked out of the Final Round by Team #18 Wicketmaster.
Wicketmaster took home the trophy! Congratulations 2007 Urban Croquet Grand Champion Wicketmaster!!
In a finally shaded course, Team #1 The (now drunken) Village Idiots and Team #5 The Shockers! zapped it out for "Biggest Looser" Championship. After soul searching and a
few more beers, peace overtook them and they decided to share the title. Such love.
Both The Village Idiots and The Shockers! took home the trophy! Congratulations
2007 Urban Croquet "Biggest Looser" The Shockers! and
The Village Idiots!!
A sincere THANK
YOU to everyone who played or watched or sponsored a team at 2007 Urban Croquet. It was a successful fund
raiser for the 25th Annual Doo Dah Parade!!
Also a giant thanks to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 683 for the use
of their property. And to the Neighbors Kathy & Ross and Bill & Lisa, who were extremely helpful in helping
to set up and tearing down the course and site. The kiddy pool for foot cooling was outstanding. Matt Brown, Antone
White, Amy Taylor, David Black, Mike Brown and Official Ruler: Emperor of the Short North...Doug Ritchey did a yeoman’s
job of Officiating. Thank you!
The event wouldn't have been successful without the help of a core group
of volunteers. Enormous kudos go to Mike Brown, Charlie Loutzenhiser, Doug Ritchey (and I suppose myself) for organizing
the event , recruiting teams and referees and volunteers and the grueling job of setting up and tearing down the site
& courses; Todd & Mindy Law, recruited right out of their bed to Team Check-in; State Rep. Dan Stewart played announcer
and Director in my short absence; Keith Brownfield had a handle on pouring the beer while Jim Collins dished out dogs and
PP&J sandwiches; Beau Wylie, as always...putting out fires; Dale for mowing the field; and Bill Finzel
our "Recycle Guru" set up "butt cans", trash & recycle boxes making the site spotless and green when
we were finished. Even the Champions stayed around to help clean!
There were quite a few businesses
that helped too. You can see all of them listed on this page.
So, all-in-all...Doo Dah loves and thanks you.
We had a great time too!
See you on July 4th,
2008 for a Quarter of a Century of Doo Dah, and next year at Urban Croquet! Love from
the Land of Doo Dah & Urban Croquet, Mz Doo Dah, ChairChick & Queen of Doo Dah...Deb Roberts and the Doo Dah
